Specialist courses (virtual)

Dementia awareness

This three-hour virtual course provides carers with an understanding of how to care for a person living with dementia.  It explains what dementia is, how it presents, how to delivery person-centred care to a person’s unique and specific needs, and how to adopt positive communication strategies.

Parkinson’s explained

Parkinson’s explained is a course provided by the leading support and research charity, Parkinson’s UK. It highlights the key challenges faced by a person living with Parkinson’s disease such as mobility, communication and swallowing.  On completion of this three-hour virtual course, carers will have an improved understanding of the disease, its symptoms and how to tailor care so that a person can live well with Parkinson’s.

Stroke awareness

A half-day course designed to increase knowledge and understanding of the causes, diagnosis, treatments and after care of someone who has experienced a stroke.  Endorsed by the UK Stroke Forum the course covers the risk factors, signs and symptoms of a stroke, how to act FAST, and how to support a person with the physical and emotional challenges that can present following a stroke.

End-of-life care

Our half day end-of-life care course introduces you to the principles of end-of-life care and the need to meet a client’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs through a holistic approach.  It highlights the importance of providing compassionate, highly personalised and sensitive care aligned to a person’s cultural needs and preferences.  Key course components are advanced care planning, communication, nutrition and hydration, the last days and hours, bereavement and loss.

Support every step of the way

We are dedicated to creating an environment where carers feel supported and empowered. Our trainers provide:

  • Peer-to-peer mentoring and continuous professional development.

  • Accessible resources, including online tools and well-being information.

  • Post-training materials, including videos and guides, to reinforce learning.

Health and Social Care Diploma

Our Pearson accredited Consultus Care Training Centre is approved by Pearson to train carers for the nationally recognised Level 2 and Leve 3 Health and Social Care Diploma.  The costs of our Diploma courses are significantly subsidised, and we offer flexible payment options and for carers working in our managed live-in care service, funding may be available.

We offer a rolling programme which gives you more flexibility with your training. You can start the qualification when you are ready, subject to assessor availability.  These qualifications usually take between six to twelve months to complete. You will need to complete nine mandatory units for the Level 2 qualification and 13 mandatory units for the Level 3 qualification plus additional optional units.  These units will cover the necessary skills to perform the role of a health and social care worker to a high standard.
